National Brother’s Day was Friday May 24th, and hope you had a very happy one! You may be busy celebrating with your own siblings, but in the midst of these celebrations I invite you to join me in supporting my brother Tyler’s foundation and the vital work we do to uplift and support young people with a gift in your sibling’s name.

My brother was a talented, creative and vibrant spirit. I celebrate not only Tyler’s life, but also my good fortune for having him in MY life, every day. On Brother’s Day, I am reminded of the need to do more for all of the brothers and sisters out there who feel alone, unsupported and afraid, and I think about the impact of my brother Tyler in my life, I am reminded of the importance of protecting and nurturing the next generation of young people.

Tyler felt alone and afraid, and I have learned from his loss that it is vitally important to start uncomfortable conversations, put yourself out there and be present for the people in your life.

Almost nine years have gone by since we tragically lost Tyler, and I still reflect daily on the love and joy he shared with me in his brief time here. As Tyler’s older brother, I wanted to protect him from harm and empower him in his own self-worth. What I’ve learned along the way is that our brothers and sisters are not only ours: we get to share them other with individuals and institutions that have a profound impact on their well-being. That’s why I am so excited about the work that the Tyler Clementi Foundation does to prevent bullying and harassment, offer education to schools and families, and empower young people to be the leaders that will make the future kinder.

You can make a gift to the Tyler Clementi Foundation and your generosity will directly support our work to create Upstanders in every corner of our society, from schools to homes and even in faith communities. The Foundation will be able to send my mother Jane into more schools as we work to transform our society to one of respect and kindness in our Million Upstander Movement by 2020!   And, if you haven’t already taken the Upstander Pledge, what are you waiting for? Join the movement today! Additionally, your gift will be directly supporting our Youth Ambassador program, where we train dedicated and passionate youth leaders from all over the US to work together and create societal change that can benefit young people, families and bullying victims throughout the country.

Thank you for considering a donation to the Tyler Clementi Foundation this International Brother’s Day.

Change can be a frustratingly slow process, but with each new Upstander that joins our movement we move the needle to help shape the next generation.

On behalf of the staff of TCF and my family, I am grateful for your continued support. I am grateful that my brother is not just a memory, but a legacy that continues to bring healing, acceptance and compassion into this world.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Brother’s Day with all my best,

James Clementi
