Twenty years ago a suburban Catholic High School senior, whom I knew to be gay and to have been suicidal, approached me for help. In response to my "What do you want from me?" He replied, "Tell the gay students that God loves them!" I asked, "Why should I do that?" And he responded, "Because if you don't they will go to the wrong part of town for help and older men will take advantage of them!" When he graduated he told me "Isn't it strange that we have become friends?"
